Slovak gastronomy

Slovak gastronomy is typical for the region of central and eastern Europe. Heavy, pretty simple food reflect economic struggles in the past. Some of typical Slovak dishes are sheperds cheese dumplings. Soups are hearty and were often eaten as a main course.Most favourite are potato, bean, lentil, mushroom or cabbage soup.Typical main dishes are roasted duck, chicken and goose.Favourite are game dishes, hog specialties and fish dishes. Most favourite are karp, pike, catfish and trout.Slovakia is not strong wine country but wines improved a lot recently and best gems can be found in region Male Karpaty and Tokaj.To finish home made plum brandy, borovicka or dem?¤novka are best choices.
